3 CEO's Share their Top Business Tips

Motivation and a million-dollar idea will only take you so far. When it comes to running a successful business, it's worth taking a few tips from those who have made it to the top.

Below, we've collected some seasoned advice from three of the most influential CEO's in the 21st century: Jeff Bezos, Arianna Huffington and an SR event favourite, Sir Richard Branson.

Jeff Bezos

Founder and CEO of Amazon, Bezos began his journey in  in 1997 with a team of five staff members and a forklift. Having since revolutionised the e-commerce and drop-shipping process, Bezos is now worth US $201 Billion.

FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS
An excerpt from an interview with Bezos in Business Insider Magazine in 2018, said:
“If you can make a decision with analysis, you should do so. But it turns out in life that your most important decisions are always made with instinct and intuition, taste, heart.”

CUSTOMER CARE
In the same interview with Business Insider Magazine, he revealed:
“The secret sauce of Amazon [...] the number one thing that has made us successful by far is obsessive compulsive focus on the customer as opposed to obsession over the competi
tor."

Ariana Huffington

Prolific author, philanthropist and co-founder of The Huffington Post media outlet since 2005, Ariana is listed as one of the world's top 100 most influential people, with a net-worth of US$100 Million.

WORK SMARTER
An interview with CNBC documented that Huffington owes her success to working smarter as opposed to working 'harder' to achieve results. Huffington said:
“Nobody is expected to answer texts or emails after hours or on weekends. If people have to go through an intense period like shipping a product or meeting a deadline, they take what we call thrive days. You know, days off to recharge and recalibrate.”

TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY
The same CNBC interview speaks to Huffington's relaxation techniques in her everyday life. She said that by taking care of your body:
“...you can succeed much more effectively, and much more sustainably, and with much less damage to your health and your relationships.”

Sir Richard Branson

The knighted Sir Richard Branson founded the Virgin Group in 1970 and today has a net worth around US$2.6 Billion. Known for his risk-taking, laid-back demeanour, Branson's Virgin Group is responsible for controlling around 400 different companies around the world.

HAVE FUN
ON a BBC interview, Branson said:
"I 100% believe that it's important to have fun and if you're not having fun anymore, it might be time to move on. You should have fun from the top down and create the kind of environment that's pleasant to work in."

MAKE TO DO LISTS
In the same BBC interview, Branson stated:
"I make copious lists because I think it's the little details that make for an exceptional company over an average company...I do believe that the first of the year is a good time to write down your goals for the year. Unless you actually organise yourself and write down the kinds of things you want to achieve, there's a danger that as time slips by, you don't achieve a lot."
